RYA Coastal Skipper Course
The Go-Sail.je RYA Coastal Skipper course is designed to give an experienced RYA Day Skipper the confidence to undertake longer and more complex passages which may involve sailing at night or involve watch keeping systems.
Skippering a yacht on coastal and offshore passages demands strong navigation, seamanship and leadership skills. During the course your instructor will guide you through navigation, both offshore and in limited visibility, weather forecasting and passage planning, watch keeping, preparation for sea and handling heavy weather. You will put this all into practice as each student plans and executes passages taking complete command of the yacht. Coastal skippers must be good boat handlers and you will receive plenty of practice mooring the yacht and have at least 8 hours night sailing. Weather permitting the yacht will undertake a longer coastal passage. You are required to cook some meals onboard (food onboard is included in the course fee), however, as we visit both the other islands and France, if you wish to eat ashore, you are welcome to do so. Upon the successful completion of the RYA Coastal Skipper course you will be awarded the RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate and will be able to skipper coastal passages safely and confidently. We limit our Coastal Skipper practical courses to 4 students per yacht as we believe that this enables us to provide better individual tuition. Please click here to read our course information pack for further information on your course. If you can't find a suitable course date please contact us, we are happy to put on courses so long as there is sufficient demand.
Next Steps - Once you have completed the RYA Coastal Skipper Course your next step to getting out on the water and more experience could be to join Go-Sail.je membership.
